What do we want?

We believe that the relationship between a Landlord and a Tenant is a simple business relationship and that pricing for rents is dictated by supply and demand. The Landlord provides accommodation and the Tenant pays for that service. If the Landlord does not provide the agreed service, the Tenant can leave or use the RTO to force better service. However,  under current rules, if the Tenant does not pay for that service, the Landlord must then prove to the RTO that he is entitled to take his property back. This can take months and creates an uncertain condition for both the Tenant and Landlord. We want to:

a) Allow the Landlord to quickly take possession of their property if rent is not paid.

b) Change the onus back to the Tenant to prove that they have paid for the rent.

c) Allow the Landlord to renovate their properties without the opportunity for month-to-month tenants to dispute.

d) Remove barriers to rent increase. Let the market determine the rent.
